Flogging Molly Postpones Show & Cheap Tix for Rev / Cash'd Out

posted Dec 2, 2011 7:20 AM by Kio Krofovitch

I just got word that Flogging Molly will not be able to make the Dec. 6 "Not So Silent Night" show with Rise Against in Broomfield at the the 1stBank Center.  The wife of drummer George Schwindt will need to deliver their baby prematurely, due to unforeseen circumstances.  Because of this, Flogging Molly has cancelled upcoming shows in the US, as the drummer goes to be with his family.  Sending good vibes their way, that everything goes smoothly and baby and mom are going to be okay.

Flogging Molly plans to reschedule their performance in Denver at the Ogden Theater on March 14, on the Green 17 tour.  Tickets will go on sale for this concert at 10am sign up here.  There aren't a whole lot of details about the March 14th show yet, but I will be sure to post as soon as I find anything out.

If you are interested, the official press release about all this from Flogging Molly is located here, courtesy of Channel 93.3.

On a lighter note, tickets for the Reverend Horton Heat's latest Denver show are currently on sale here at the very discounted price of $9.33.  The show is at the Ogden Theater on January 28 (my birthday, woohoo!).  At some point the "early bird ticket price" will go away and become $20 / $25 DOS, but I don't actually know when that happens....so just buy them now.

Also, Cash'd Out (The Ultimate Johnny Cash Tribute band) is going to be playing a show at the Bluebird Theater on Saturday, Feb 4.  Tickets are normally $15 ($18 DOS), but if you buy them here starting tomorrow they are only $10!  Again, not sure when this "early bird ticket price" ends.

New Punk Record Store & Bouncing Souls Denver Invasion

posted Sep 2, 2011 10:14 AM by Kio Krofovitch

I got an email the other day from the Submit Your Show Page about a free punk show to celebrate the opening of a new punk record store: Growler!  The show is this Saturday (tomorrow) at the Yellow Feather Coffee shop which is in the Santa Fe Arts District.  The record store is setup in the back of the coffee shop, in an awesome local business partnership scheme. I found this neat article about the history of this "new" record store from the Westword.  The show starts at 4pm, and its free and all-ages.

If you want even more info, here is the Growler Record site, and here is the Yellow Feather Coffee shop site.  I love when local businesses can get together and create something awesome like this. Hope you all can make it out!

Also, I just got word that Bouncing Souls will be playing in Denver. At the Marquis. FOUR NIGHTS IN A ROW! Unbelievable. AND there is a different amazing line-up for each night! Check it out:

11.02 w/ Youth Brigade and Wet Witch
11.03 w/ Riverboat Gamblers and Broken Gold
11.04 w/ Broadway Calls, The Architects, and Luther
11.05 w/ Teenage Bottlerocket and Heart And Soul Radio

Tickets go on sale today, and are just $18 or $20 Day-Of-Show.  Of course, since it is at the Marquis, its also all ages... So now its just a question of how many nights of awesome my wallet can handle....

Chelsea Hotel in New York Closes to Guests

I came across this article on the NY Times a few days ago, and wanted to share it with you all in case you were unaware.  Its definitely the end of an era for this historic building.  At least the full-time tenants can stay... for now at least.

Read the full article here on the NY Times website.

We're Back!

posted Jul 18, 2011 10:36 AM by Kio Krofovitch

DenverPunk.org went on a little hiatus.  We were traveling for a few weeks and of course didn't have very good internet access the whole time, so sorry about that.  While we were gone we did manage to see Marky Ramone's Blitzkrieg perform in London, though, which was really great.

I feel like the band had quite a unique challenge...  They are a quasi-cover-band with an original member of the band they are covering....but still a new and distinct band with their own songs as well.  How do you find a balance between just parroting what the Ramone's did, and breaking too far away from the Ramone's so that it doesn't even sound like their songs anymore?  It seems like a really tough spot to be in, but we thought that they somehow were able to locate the sweet spot on the spectrum.  It was a really great show, with lots of great people.

I've uploaded a few new shows today, and I can see that there are lots more for me to post. I am going to try and get them up within the next few days for you!

NEW SHOWS
  • July 21 - Igor and the RED Elvises, Truckasaurus, Ska Skank Redemption, Hatrick Penry.
  • July 22 - Potato Pirates, Allout Helter, The Reprecussions, The Promise Collision, False Colours
  • July 28 - Potato Pirates, Speedwolf, Black and Devil, Disease Called Human

CD Release Shows This Weekend

posted Jun 15, 2011 8:56 AM by Kio Krofovitch   [ updated Jun 15, 2011 9:11 AM ]

Two amazing Denver bands are going to be releasing CD's this weekend, and I want you all to be there for it.

Potato Pirates are having their CD release show this Saturday (June 18) at the Gothic.  They've got a great line-up with The A-OKs, the Insomniaxe, and Pitch Invasion.  I am so stoked to own the new CD, "Tried and True, Black and Blue"!  Also, the show is ALL AGES, and if you go to the band's Facebook page, you can find out how to get a comp ticket if you are 21+.

Also, Ska Skank Redemption will be releasing their new 5 Song EP.... FOR FREE. Yes. The CD release show is this Sunday (June 19) at the Blast-O-Mat (so, all ages), and they will be playing with A Billion Ernies and Flagship. Its going to be amazing.

Check out the shows page for more details.
